The 24 Solar Terms, a treasure of Chinese culture developed thousands of years ago, divides the year into 24 periods based on the movement of the sun. Each term corresponds to a specific segment of time during the year, indicating changes in climate, and hence, guiding agricultural activities. Ancient Chinese philosophy believes that one’s health should move and change in harmony with nature, as such changes to the climate and environment directly influence our bodies.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) identifies 12 main ZangFu organs within the human body, and each solar term is correlated with one or more of the organs. By recognizing which organs are primarily influenced and should be focused on during a particular term, one can undertake preventive measures to enhance an individual’s health status.

Ancient Chinese sages divided the year into 24 segments based on the sun’s position, with two segments for each month. The beginning of each month is called a “jie” and the middle is called a “qi,” together known as “jieqi.” This unique system of time knowledge, rooted in understanding the natural changes brought about by the transitions between these segments, has become a distinctive feature of Chinese culture.
